Bold Vision. Bold Leadership.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DECATUR, AL- On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, Jacob Ladner announced his candidacy for City Council District 5. Chuck Ard, the current District 5 Representative, announced that he will not seek re-election. The municipal election will be held on August 25th.
“Decatur is a great place to call home and raise your family. That is why my wife, Erika and I decided to move back here,” said Ladner. “I would like to thank Mr. Ard for his service to our district and to all of Decatur the last eight years. For me, this is an opportunity to serve our city by making sure that we capitalize on opportunities that we have before us.”
Jacob grew up in Decatur and graduated from Decatur Heritage Christian Academy. After graduating from the University of North Alabama, he returned to Decatur to start his career. Jacob has been employed at Interstate Billing Service, a commercial finance company, for 10 years where he serves as the Vice President of Sales and Client Experience. In his role, Jacob leads the Sales and Client Experience teams, generating new sales and leading the onboarding of new clients across North America.
“For the last 10 years, I have had the opportunity to meet with businesses all across the country. I have seen thriving cities, and I have seen how local governments can promote growth, and also inhibit growth,” said Ladner. “I have learned that real leadership is serving our team members and helping them achieve success. This should be the same approach from the City Council. We should not micro-manage departments, but serve and support them. The Council should cast a bold vision for Decatur, and work tirelessly to achieve it. I believe that my experience in leadership and financial services will be an asset to the City Council.”
Jacob is an active volunteer in several community organizations. He serves as a board member for the Kiwanis Club of Decatur as well as the Neighborhood Christian Center. Jacob is also a member of the One Decatur Plan Committee and participated in Excellence in Leadership through the Chamber of Commerce. His family attends Decatur Presbyterian Church.
Jacob and his wife Erika have been married for nine years and have two children, Bennett (7) and Hallie (5). Bennett will be in 2nd grade at Benjamin Davis Elementary School, while Hallie will begin Kindergarten at Chestnut Grove Elementary School.
“I want to make sure that my kids have a city that they can be proud of, and maybe they will one day want to move back to Decatur to raise their families, just like I have,” said Ladner. “I look forward to the months ahead on the campaign trail sharing my vision for our city.”
